Unpopular Opinion: Taylor Swift

So I just listened to one of Taylor Swift’s songs, I am not sure the title, but the lyrics berated me for thinking she is not a good singer. She called me mean several tens of times.

She said I was mean, pathetic, and alone in life for thinking she isn’t the greatest singer on earth.

You know, I never disliked Taylor Swift as a person, or judged her personality based off her music or lyrics. Never once. But already Taylor Swift is judging me because of my opinion. Well, now I kinda just lost respect for her because of that. I’m sorry I gave her the benefit of the doubt.

And for the record, I will back up why I don’t think she is a “great singer”: She has no proper breath control, she breathes in the middle of phrases so her lyrics sound awkward and rushed. She has no dynamics. She sounds like she is just belting the whole song, no matter what the circumstance or lyric. I can’t listen to a song without thinking T-Swift is screaming at me the whole time. It’s hard to portray emotion with only one level of sound in her voice. She barely sustains any pitch. I don’t know how much is tuned/synced/real/whatever. But her live shows are pitchy. Again, this is caused by lack of breath control, proper singing mechanics, etc. A good singer can reach her pitches without sounding strained, breathe in correct places, and sing softly and loudly to convey different emotions, not just stagnate at a tired forte.

Can she sing? Heck yes! No arguing she has a voice that produces musical quality, obviously. But is she a great singer? Not really.

That’s all I’ve been trying to say.
